What does render look like after a few years?
After a few years K Rend, as well as other brands of through coloured render, will look grubby. Your once bright, colourful rendered building will shows signs of algae, dirt and pollution. Usually K Rend, or other types of render, will be affected worse on one wall- usually the side that takes the brunt of the weather. After a few years you will see green staining on render, black marks on render and red streaks on render. If your rendered property is close to a busy road, or in a busy city it is likely that it will suffer from pollution contamination and traffic film build up.
What does algae growth on render look like?
You will notice algae growth on K Rend when the render will start to have a green tinge to the render. This is followed quickly by black staining(which covers the green algae). This will mean your bright coloured render will start to look a dull grey colour. As this process develops slowly it can be difficult to see the change to place. You will likely start to notice it more when it rains. When through coloured Render is wet it exaggerates the colours, meaning the once cream coloured render you had now looks like a dark grey.
On some occasions, you will see red streaks running down the wall of the render. Have you noticed red streaks on render? Is it rust? is it algae? is something leaching out of the render? It can be either rust or algae, but usually the problem is algae. The good news is it is fixable!
So is this the time to paint the render?
No! Painting over algae can cause major problems. In some cases, when the algae is not killed the algae can continue to grow under the paint and cause the paint to flake, bubble and peel. This leaves you with a mess. The paint will need to be removed from the render and the algae will need to be killed. So, Can you paint k rend?
